Previously, I posted a detailed article about how to write copy that is not good but great in a step-by-step manner.

Today let’s explore some so-called secrets of copywriting – most probably you are already aware of these but this post will help you understand and exploit them.

Do you know the difference between an extraordinary copy and a nominal one?

The effective copy makes more people say ‘Yes’.

1. Writing sticky headlines

To get a Yes from somebody, you have to arrest their attention first.

In the online world, headline is your first and mostly the last chance of getting a hit.

It is indisputably the most important copywriting skill!

But this report is not a magic wand, you have to practice… and practice a lot.

2. Know your REAL audience

If you try to write for everybody, you will please nobody.

You have to write for a specific set of audience and you have to know them before you plan your post. Many people would say, ‘know your audience’ – I say ‘know your REAL audience’.

Suppose you are writing an SEO copy for aged widows who are having financial crisis and Lori is one of them.

You write a great piece and publish it under the most compelling headline. Lori has no choice but to read. However, she quickly realizes this copy is NOT for her.

Any idea what went wrong?

Actually, Lori doesn’t think of herself as an aged widow. She thinks of herself as a mother to three kids, a retired saleswoman, the world’s best dancer and a horror movie enthusiast.

Your readers don’t recognize themselves in a collection of demographic traits.

You think of Lori as an aged widow, but the real Lori is what she thinks of herself. You have to write for the REAL Lori.

Here is another interesting argument.

Suppose Lori’s eldest son is smart enough to help his mum in her financial catastrophe. He is browsing the internet, your headline appeals him and the write-up offers a plausible solution. But he will never share it with his mom.

Why?

Simply because, he doesn’t want his mother to think that is his image of her:

“No way! She’d be hurt, she’d be insulted”.

Same goes for other people around Lori. They don’t think this copy is for her and your copy is dead in water.

3. Six pressure points of copywriting

Your girlfriend, even if she has the softest hands in the world, can’t massage you like a qualified masseuse.

Yes, she has those sexy hands but she doesn’t know the pressure points like the massager.

Likewise, there are six extremely vivacious pressure points of copywriting that can force almost anybody to pull out their credit card. All you have to do is tweak and experiment for determining the most effective ones for your particular audience.

Here goes the list:

1. Fear

2. Fury

3. Guilt

4. Gluttony

5. Salvation

6. Sycophancy

Master the art of writing magnetic headlines, know your REAL audience and write copy that stimulates their pressure points and your chances of getting a Yes will surely skyrocket.
